IMD Forecasts Widespread Rainfall Across India This Week
India’s weather office says many parts of the country may get rain this week.
The southwest monsoon is still active in much of India.
Northern, central, eastern and northeastern areas are expected to receive the most widespread rain.
Odisha and some nearby states could get very heavy rain.
This much rain may cause flooding and waterlogging in places that are vulnerable.
Southern India will mostly have scattered showers, though some areas may get widespread rain.
Very heavy rain has already fallen in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Overall rainfall since June has been below the long-term average, so the new rain is important for areas that depend on the monsoon.
The India Meteorological Department forecasts widespread rainfall across northwest, central, eastern and northeastern India over the coming week.
Odisha may receive isolated heavy-to-very heavy rain from 28-31 August, followed by heavy rain on 1-2 September.
Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and several northeastern states are expected to experience widespread rainfall during the forecast period.
Southern India is likely to see mostly isolated to scattered showers, although Kerala, Lakshadweep and Coastal Karnataka may receive widespread rain.
