UP Women's Panel Member Inspects Police Station
A member of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, Anita Gupta, visited a police station in Kanpur to check on a woman's complaint.
She looked at the records to see what the police had done.
Later, a senior police officer sent her a letter saying she didn't have the authority to inspect the police station.
The chairperson of the commission is now looking into the matter.
The commission's job is to protect women's rights and take action on complaints of harassment.
The police officer said such inspections disrupt their work.
Anita Gupta, a member of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, inspected the Barra police station in Kanpur to investigate a woman's complaint about police pressure to compromise on a family dispute.
