WhatsApp May Block Logins on Phones Running Outdated Software
WhatsApp is adding a new check when some people try to sign in.
It may stop them if their phone’s software is too old.
The warning tells them to look for an update in their phone settings.
After an available update is installed, they can continue signing in.
The check is appearing on Android phones and iPhones, but not everyone sees it yet.
WhatsApp has not said exactly which software versions are too old.
Old software may miss important security fixes.
If a phone cannot be updated, its owner might eventually be unable to use WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is testing a login check that can block access until a phone’s operating system is updated.
The check is appearing on both Android and iOS, but the rollout is limited to selected accounts and devices.
Affected users see a warning during login and are directed to their phone’s settings to check for updates.
WhatsApp has not specified which operating system versions trigger the restriction or listed affected devices.
Phones that no longer receive operating system updates could eventually lose access to WhatsApp.
