Mahalaxmi Racecourse to Transform into Public Green Space
Imagine a big park in Mumbai, like a smaller version of Central Park in New York.
The government is planning to turn part of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse into this park.
They have an agreement to use a large part of the racecourse land to make this happen.
The plan is to create a green space with paths and places to sit.
The government wants to make this space available for everyone to enjoy.
They will not build anything on the land, so it will just be a big open area.
This new park will connect with the coastal road to give people access to even more open space.
The ownership of the land will remain with the city.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced plans to transform the Mahalaxmi Racecourse into a public park.
The project aims to create a green space similar to New York's Central Park.
In July 2024, the BMC and RWITC signed an agreement regarding the racecourse land.
The BMC will have 120 acres, and the RWITC will lease 91 acres.
The park will include pathways, walkways, and sitting areas, with no construction planned.
