Woman Accused of Posing as PMO Official Arrested in Delhi
A woman named Dr Akangsha Vidyarthi allegedly said she worked for the Prime Minister’s Office.
She went to Nabanna, a government secretariat in West Bengal, on Wednesday.
One report says she wanted to meet a minister, while another says she asked department officials questions.
Officials became suspicious and she left.
She then flew to Delhi.
Police found her at her home and arrested her on Thursday.
Investigators are trying to learn why she went to Nabanna and whether anyone else was involved.
The reports describe her identity slightly differently, spelling her first name as both Akangsha and Akanksha.
Dr Akangsha Vidyarthi allegedly claimed to be a senior PMO official to obtain an appointment at Nabanna.
Police accounts differ on whether she sought a meeting with minister Ajay Poddar or questioned Public Works Department officials about the department.
Officials reportedly became suspicious of her identity, and she left the secretariat on Wednesday.
After learning she had flown to Delhi, Howrah City Police worked with Delhi Police; she was arrested at her central Delhi residence on Thursday.
Investigators are examining her motive, the credentials she presented, and whether others helped her or she was part of an organised gang.
