Novo Nordisk Slashes Wegovy Price in India to Compete with Rivals
A company called Novo Nordisk has made its weight-loss medicine, Wegovy, much cheaper in India.
They lowered the price by almost 40% to help more people afford it.
This is because another similar medicine called Mounjaro has become very popular since it came out a few months ago.
Wegovy wants to sell more too.
The new price for the most expensive Wegovy pack is now around 16,400 rupees a month.
Mounjaro is a bit more expensive for some of its options.
Both these medicines work by mimicking a hormone that helps control blood sugar and makes you feel full, aiding weight loss.
Some studies show Mounjaro might help people lose a bit more weight than Wegovy.
Wegovy's main ingredient will become available for other companies to make in 2026.
Novo Nordisk has reduced the price of its weight-loss drug Wegovy in India by up to 37%.
The highest dose of Wegovy now costs 16,400 rupees monthly, down from 24,389.06 rupees.
This price cut aims to compete with Eli Lilly's Mounjaro, which has seen significant sales since its March launch.
Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are GLP-1 drugs that help lower blood sugar and promote weight loss by increasing fullness.
Studies indicate Mounjaro may lead to greater weight loss compared to Wegovy.
