Japan Marks 80th Anniversary of WWII Surrender

Japan is marking 80 years since the end of World War II.

A ceremony was held to remember the war dead.

A cabinet minister, Shinjiro Koizumi, visited the Yasukuni Shrine, which honors those who died in the war, including some war criminals.

The Prime Minister sent an offering to the shrine.

This has caused controversy due to the shrine's association with Japanese militarism and its impact on relations with neighboring countries like China and South Korea.

As the generation who lived through the war diminishes, there's concern about preserving the memory of wartime events and promoting peace.
