Trump's Iran war dilemma: appeasing Americans would anger evangelical base

America is fighting a war with a country called Iran.

Most Americans do not like this war, and many more have come to dislike it over time.

But the President, Donald Trump, has some very strong supporters who really want the war to continue.

These supporters, called Christian Zionists, belong to a huge group called Christians United for Israel.

They believe God has a special plan for the Jewish people and the land of Israel.

Because of that belief, they think the war against Iran is needed to protect Israel.

This puts President Trump in a very tricky spot.

If he ends the war, his most loyal supporters might turn against him.

If he keeps the war going, the majority of Americans might become even more unhappy.

So far, his mixture of small attacks, threats, and peace talks has not pleased anyone.
