Household Net Financial Assets Decline in FY26

Household Net Financial Assets Decline in FY26

In the fiscal year 2026, the net financial assets of households in India decreased to Rs 21.4 lakh crore, which is 6.2% of the country's GDP.

This is a drop from the previous year's Rs 22.3 lakh crore, or 7% of GDP.

The main reason for this decline is that households' financial liabilities, or debts, increased significantly to Rs 21.4 lakh crore, up from Rs 15.7 lakh crore the year before.

While the total value of financial assets grew, the types of assets changed.

The share of investments in stocks decreased, while the share of money kept in bank deposits increased.

This trend is part of a larger pattern seen since the pandemic, which had a big impact on household finances.
