Gujarat Water Map Reshaped: Kutch Gains, Tapi Declines
Imagine Gujarat like a giant sponge.
A new study looked at how much water the sponge held in different areas from 2020 to 2024.
Surprisingly, Kutch, a typically dry area, gained the most water, like a super-absorbent spot.
Other places like Bharuch did well thanks to new water projects and good practices.
Unfortunately, some areas, like Tapi, lost water, maybe because of deforestation or using too much water.
These changes were caused by things like rainfall, how people managed the water, and what activities they did.
The study showed that where water is and how it changes is complicated, but it gives a lot of insight on how to help save the water.
A study tracked Gujarat's surface water changes from 2020 to 2024.
Kutch district saw the largest increase in water body area (746.87 sq km).
Tapi recorded the steepest decline in water body area.
Bharuch district showed the largest increase at the district level (66.08 sq km).
Factors like rainfall, water conservation, and human activities influenced changes.
