Suspended Punjab DIG seeks bail in bribery case
A high-ranking police officer named Harcharan Singh Bhullar was arrested in October 2025 for allegedly taking a bribe.
He says he is innocent and has asked the court to let him out on bail.
The court case is about whether he really took the bribe or if he was set up.
Bhullar has been in jail since his arrest, and his lawyers say he should be released because he has no criminal record and the case against him is weak.
The court will decide if he can be freed while waiting for the trial.
Suspended Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar was arrested by the CBI in October 2025 for alleged bribery.
Bhullar filed a bail petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, claiming false implication and legal irregularities.
The CBI alleges Bhullar demanded a bribe through an associate to settle a cheating case.
Bhullar's petition argues that the trap pertains to his associate, not directly to him, and questions the jurisdiction of the case.
Bhullar has been in custody since October 17, 2025, and his bail application was previously dismissed by the trial court.
