Mirwaiz Calls for Dialogue to Bridge Kashmir Divide
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a key religious leader in Kashmir, wants the Indian government to talk more with the people of Kashmir.
He liked how some Kashmiri politicians spoke up in Parliament about the problems in the region.
He thinks talking and working together is better than fighting.
However, a top government official, Amit Shah, said they won't talk to the Hurriyat Conference, a group Mirwaiz is part of.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called for dialogue to bridge the emotional divide between the Centre and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He praised the unified voices of three Kashmiri MPs in a Lok Sabha discussion on the India-Pakistan war.
The MPs highlighted the disempowerment and struggles of Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz believes engagement is a better approach than war or violence to resolve issues.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government's stance against dialogue with the Hurriyat Conference, labelling it a "terrorist outfit".
