Proposed Bullet Train Could Cut Delhi-Patna Travel Time
India is considering a very fast train route from Delhi to several cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The proposed route would include Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna.
If it is built, the train could make long journeys much shorter.
Delhi to Agra might take only 58 minutes.
Delhi to Lucknow could take about 2 hours and 12 minutes.
Delhi to Patna could take around four and a half hours.
The project is still only a proposal, so these are estimated times rather than a confirmed schedule.
The government says faster travel could help passengers, tourism, businesses and the economy.
Vaishnaw also said India wants to develop 100,000 more semiconductor engineers.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined a proposed high-speed corridor connecting Delhi with Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna.
Estimated travel times include 58 minutes from Delhi to Agra, 1 hour 50 minutes to Kanpur and 2 hours 12 minutes to Lucknow.
The proposed service could cover Delhi-Prayagraj in about three hours and Delhi-Varanasi in approximately 3 hours 33 minutes.
The nearly 1,170-kilometre Delhi-Patna journey could take about 4.5 hours if the project is developed.
Separately, Vaishnaw said India plans to develop another 100,000 semiconductor engineers under the second phase of its semiconductor programme.
