Uttar Pradesh food safety drive seizes adulterated materials

Officials in Uttar Pradesh inspected food businesses before the Raksha Bandhan festival.

They were looking for food that might be unsafe or mixed with unwanted substances.

Teams collected 182 samples and registered 18 police cases.

They seized large amounts of food and materials suspected of being used for adulteration.

Officials also destroyed food stored in unhygienic conditions or considered unsafe.

In Sambhal, about 100 quintals of suspected fake ghee was seized and the premises was sealed.

In Lucknow, a food establishment was closed after contaminated food was found.

The government said the drive was meant to protect people buying festival foods such as sweets, khoya, paneer, milk and ghee.
