Trump Pauses 50% Canada Tariffs After Tentative Deal

The United States planned to put a large tax on some products imported from Canada.

President Donald Trump paused the tariffs for three days just before they were supposed to begin.

He said the two countries had reached a tentative deal, pending final documents.

The White House said Canada would change rules affecting American cars, dairy products and alcohol.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said there had been important progress but said the deal was not finished.

Canada had threatened to tax some American products if the U.S. tariffs started.

The pause gives negotiators more time to work out the details.

Businesses felt some relief, but they still wanted a final agreement because the situation remained uncertain.
