Oracle September Layoffs Begin Quietly Without Mass Email
Oracle workers expected a large layoff announcement on September 1.
Instead, employees said job cuts appeared quietly within individual teams.
Some workers watched the number of people in Oracle’s internal Slack system fall.
However, that number can also change when people leave normally, so it does not prove layoffs happened.
Reports said several senior leaders from Oracle Application Labs were no longer visible on Slack.
The team was recently moved into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Managers in India were also reportedly asked to find ways to reduce costs.
Oracle has not confirmed the reported layoffs or the estimated number of affected jobs.
Oracle employees reported team-level layoffs in the United States beginning around September 4, without a company-wide email.
Employees monitored changing internal Slack membership counts, though some said normal attrition could explain the declines.
Reports said vice presidents and global vice presidents in Oracle Application Labs had disappeared from Slack.
Oracle Application Labs was recently folded into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, according to the report.
Internal estimates suggested 7,000 to 10,000 global roles could be affected, but Oracle has not verified that figure.
