Seema Kaliramna Wins Commonwealth Bronze Amid Motherhood and PhD Pursuit
Seema Kaliramna is a 27‑year‑old athlete from India who throws a heavy disc called a discus.
She had a serious knee injury and then had a baby, which made it hard to train.
After 11 months of being a mom, she went back to practice and got better.
In July 2026, she threw the discus 58.65 metres in Glasgow and won a bronze medal for India.
She is also studying for a PhD and her husband, who used to throw the discus too, coaches her.
Her win shows that being a mom and a top athlete can go together.
Seema Kaliramna, 27, won bronze in women’s discus at Commonwealth Games 2026 with a 58.65m throw.
The medal is her first major international podium after a 3‑year knee‑injury break and an 11‑month postpartum pause.
She balances elite sport with motherhood (son Rudra) and a PhD in Physical Education at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University.
Her personal best improved from ~45‑48m before motherhood to 57.19m in 2024 and 59.73m in 2026, winning national titles in 2025 and 2026.
Her husband, former national discus thrower Ravinder Kaliramna, coaches her and helped her rehabilitation.
