Santhal Tribals Seek State Protection for Sacred Pilgrimage Site
The Santhal tribe, a group of people, want the government to protect and let them manage their sacred place called Marang Buru.
They met with the Chief Minister and asked for the site to be officially recognized as theirs, and for the government to stop others from building there without their permission.
They believe they have the right to do this because of old laws and agreements.
The Santhals also want the government to know and respect their traditions.
The government has said they will look into the issue and help the tribe.
A Santhal tribal delegation sought state protection and management rights for their pilgrimage site, Marang Buru.
The delegation presented a memorandum to Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanding legal recognition and control over the site.
They cited customary rights under historical laws and forest rights legislation to support their claims.
The delegation criticized the Eco Sensitive Zone declaration by the Union Ministry and alleged illegal constructions.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren assured the delegation of appropriate legal and administrative action.
