Delhi Tightens Bus Safety Rules After Minor’s Alleged Gang-Rape

Delhi has introduced stricter safety rules for buses after a minor was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus.

Reports identify the driver and conductor as accused, and say they were arrested.

The incident happened on August 4 while the bus travelled from Greater Noida toward Delhi.

The government says tracking devices and emergency panic buttons must work all the time.

Panic buttons must be easy for passengers to reach.

Curtains and unauthorised dark window films that block visibility are banned.

Bus staff must have valid documents, be verified and receive guidance on protecting women passengers.

If a woman is harassed, the crew must quickly alert the police and take the bus to a police station or other authorised police facility.

Operators that break the rules could face penalties or lose their permits.
