Karala River Dredging to Prevent Floods in Jalpaiguri
The government is going to clean up the Karala River in Jalpaiguri to stop floods and help the water flow better.
They are going to take out a lot of sand and soil from the river.
A special company will do the work and pay the government for the sand and soil they take.
This will help the town during the rainy season when the river usually overflows and causes floods.
The work will start soon and should be done in about six months.
People hope this will make the town safer and cleaner.
The West Bengal Irrigation Department is dredging a 15-kilometre stretch of the Karala River in Jalpaiguri.
The project aims to prevent floods, improve drainage, and generate revenue through royalty payments from the dredging agency.
The work is expected to start in February and be completed within six months.
Around 1,27,730 cubic metres of soil and sand will be removed from the riverbed.
The dredging will cover areas including NH-27, Arabinda, Paharpur, Kharia, Mandalghat panchayats, and the Jalpaiguri civic area.
