TRAI Reviews Leased Line Tariffs After Decade
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is reviewing the prices of special internet lines called domestic leased circuits (DLCs) that businesses use.
These lines help companies move data securely and quickly between their offices and data centers.
TRAI hasn't changed these prices in over ten years, and now they think it's time to update them because technology has improved and prices in the market have changed.
They want to make sure the prices are fair and reflect what's happening in the market.
TRAI is asking for feedback from companies and other stakeholders to help them make a decision.
They are also considering whether to include virtual private networks (VPNs) in their price regulations, as VPNs have become more popular and make up almost half of the market now.
TRAI is reviewing the tariffs for domestic leased circuits (DLCs) for the first time in over a decade.
DLCs are dedicated broadband lines used by enterprises for secure, high-speed communication.
Current ceiling tariffs for DLCs were set in 2014, with significant discounts offered by providers.
TRAI is seeking feedback on allowing internet service providers (ISPs) to offer DLC services.
The regulator is also considering bringing virtual private network (VPN) services under the tariff regulation framework.
