Four Officials Booked Over Alleged Akola Birth Certificate Scam

Police in Maharashtra have booked four officials over birth certificates that may have been made using forged papers.

The certificates were issued through Alegaon gram panchayat in Akola district.

The case involves 1,101 certificates.

Investigators said some applications were missing and some fees were not paid.

They also found certificates issued when original records were unavailable.

A special team reported that some registrations relied on old records and allegedly forged documents.

Kirit Somaiya had earlier claimed that Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in India obtained the certificates.

That claim is attributed to him and is not presented as a finding in the report.
