Gujarat tableau charts National Flag evolution
On Republic Day, Gujarat's tableau at the parade showed how the Indian National Flag changed over time.
It started with a flag from 1906 and showed different versions until the current tricolor with the Ashoka Chakra was adopted in 1947.
The tableau also highlighted Bhikhaiji Cama, a freedom fighter from Gujarat, who showed an early version of the flag in Paris in 1907.
There were sculptures of Mahatma Gandhi and the charkha, and cultural performances with music by a Gujarati poet.
The parade had 30 tableaux, with artists and guests from all over India.
Special guests from Europe were also there, and for the first time, animals like camels and military dogs were part of the parade.
Gujarat's tableau at the 77th Republic Day parade showcased the evolution of the Indian National Flag.
The tableau highlighted Bhikhaiji Cama's role in the freedom movement, featuring her early version of the flag displayed in Paris in 1907.
It traced the development of the National Flag from 1906 to its current form adopted in 1947, including key phases of India's freedom struggle.
The tableau included sculptures of Mahatma Gandhi, the charkha, and the Ashoka Chakra, accompanied by cultural performances set to Gujarati music.
The parade featured 30 tableaux, 2,500 artists, and 10,000 guests, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa as chief guests.
