HC Drops Some Charges in Rs 145 Crore Farmer Loan Scam
The Bombay High Court in Nagpur dropped some charges against three main accused in a big farmer loan scam worth over Rs 145 crore.
The court said the trial will still go on for serious crimes like cheating and fraud.
The accused took loans from banks using farmers' names and documents without their full knowledge.
The farmers only found out when they got notices from the banks asking for loan repayments.
The court removed some charges because the money was taken as bank loans, not as public deposits.
The trial will continue for other serious crimes, and the police are still investigating.
The Bombay High Court dropped charges under Section 3 of the MPID Act and two other charges related to dealing in stolen property against three main accused in a Rs 145 crore farmer loan scam.
The scam involved misappropriation of funds obtained through loans in the names of farmers who either had no land or less land.
The accused approached poor farmers, obtained their documents, and applied for loans in their names without full knowledge, then misappropriated the funds.
The trial will continue for serious crimes like cheating, criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, forgery, and misuse of computer systems under the IT Act.
The scam took place in 184 loan cases across three banks — Corporation Bank, IDBI Bank, and Vaishya Bank — in 2018.
