Singapore PM Removes Opposition Leader
In Singapore, the Prime Minister has decided to remove Pritam Singh from his job as the Leader of the Opposition.
This decision was made because Singh was found guilty of lying to the government.
The Prime Minister said that because of this, Singh can no longer keep his job.
However, Singh will still be a member of the government.
The Workers’ Party, which Singh is part of, said they will think about what the Prime Minister said and respond later.
This is the first time something like this has happened in Singapore.
Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong removed Pritam Singh as Leader of the Opposition due to his conviction for lying to parliament.
The decision was made after parliament voted that Singh's conduct was 'dishonourable and unbecoming'.
Singh will remain a lawmaker but will no longer hold the position of Leader of the Opposition.
The Workers’ Party said it would study Wong’s statement and respond in due course.
This is the first time in Singapore's history that a Leader of the Opposition has been removed from their post.
