Labour Codes Implemented: Government Clarifies Impact
The Indian government has started using four new Labour Codes to make work rules better.
These codes replace old laws and will change how wages, social security, and workplace safety work.
The government says these changes won't reduce your take-home pay, but some people are still worried.
The new rules will be explained in more detail soon.
The codes also affect tea gardens, but the states will still manage those rules.
Four new Labour Codes came into force on November 21, 2025, replacing 29 older laws.
The government clarified that the new codes do not reduce take-home pay if PF deductions are based on the statutory wage ceiling of ₹15,000.
The definition of wages has changed to ensure Basic+DA constitutes at least 50% of total remuneration if allowances exceed that threshold.
Working conditions in tea gardens are regulated by State Governments under the Plantations Labour Act, 1951, now subsumed under the new codes.
The corresponding rules for the new codes are expected to be notified within 7 to 10 days.
