Karnataka Forms Committee to Reform Recruitment Exams
The Karnataka government has set up a new committee to make sure that the exams used to hire people for jobs in the state are fair and honest.
The committee is led by a former top state official and includes other former chief secretaries.
They will look at how the exams are run and suggest ways to make them more transparent and efficient.
The chief minister said that all exam stages must be recorded on video and that no one should use mobile phones during the process.
This move comes after problems were found in past recruitment, including a case where a chairman was accused of helping his daughters get jobs.
The state plans to fill more than 70,000 jobs in the next year.
Karnataka government formed a Competitive Examinations and Recruitment Reform Committee headed by former Chief Secretary S V Ranganath.
The committee includes former chief secretaries T M Vijay Bhaskar, Vandita Sharma and L K Atheeq and will study current exams and propose reforms for greater transparency, efficiency and credibility.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar directed officials to ensure complete transparency in filling more than 70,000 vacancies, video‑record all exam stages, ban mobile phones and hold district officers accountable for malpractice.
The Karnataka Public Service Commission and Karnataka Examinations Authority have scheduled exams over the next six months to fill 36,773 posts, with about 3.5 million candidates expected to appear.
The move follows recent irregularities in KPSC recruitment, including the suspension of Chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot over alleged nepotism and a High Court case over veterinary doctor hiring.
