Assam Faces Multiple Crises: Border Tensions, Violence, and Erosion
In Assam, there are three big problems happening at the same time.
First, in Mariani, people are worried because they say others from Nagaland are taking over their forest land.
This has been happening for a while, and the government hasn't done much to stop it.
Second, in Karigaon, there was a fight between two groups, the Bodo and the Adivasi, after a road accident.
This fight has made many people leave their homes and live in relief camps.
The students' group AASAA is asking the government to catch the people who started the fight and help those who lost their homes.
Third, in Kordoiguri, a river is eating away the land, and people are scared their village will disappear.
They have asked the government to fix the problem, but nothing has happened yet.
The students' union says they will protest if the government doesn't start working on a solution soon.
Tension along the Assam-Nagaland border in Mariani due to alleged forest land encroachment by Naga settlers.
Violence in Karigaon, Kokrajhar, between Bodo and Adivasi communities after a road accident, leading to displacement and relief camps.
River erosion in Kordoiguri, Tinsukia, threatening to swallow the village, with no government action despite repeated demands.
AASAA demands arrest of culprits, compensation, and rehabilitation for affected families in Karigaon.
Tinsukia District Students’ Union warns of protests if erosion control measures are not implemented by February.
