Indian Home Meal Prices Dip in May Due to Vegetable Costs
In May, the cost of home-cooked meals in India decreased slightly.
This was because vegetables like tomatoes were cheaper, which lowered the price of vegetarian meals.
Chicken prices also dropped, making non-vegetarian meals more affordable.
However, the savings were partly offset by increases in vegetable oil and cooking gas prices.
Experts anticipate possible rises in vegetable prices.
Additionally, the cost of rice might increase as India increases its exports.
Vegetarian thali prices decreased 6% year-on-year in May to ₹26.2.
Non-vegetarian thali prices also decreased.
Tomato prices fell 29% year-on-year in May.
Broiler chicken prices fell 6% year-on-year.
Vegetable oil prices rose 19% and LPG prices rose 6% year-on-year.
