TMC Accuses EC of Inhumane Treatment During Voter Hearings
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal is very upset with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
They say the ECI is making elderly, sick, and disabled people go to camps far from their homes to prove they are real voters.
The TMC says this is unfair because usually, officials visit these people at home.
Many voters, like Sabita Manna and Nirufa Khatoon, are having a hard time because they can't walk well or don't have all the right papers.
The TMC wants the ECI to change the rules so that these people don't have to go to the camps.
The ECI is doing this to check the voter list and remove names of people who have died, moved away, or didn't send the right papers.
The TMC says the ECI is not being kind and is making things difficult for many people.
TMC accuses ECI of inhumane treatment by summoning elderly, ailing, and disabled voters to camps for hearings.
Hearings for 'unmapped' voters began on December 27, with 32 lakh voters summoned in the first phase.
TMC leaders allege that the ECI is not following the usual practice of home visits for elderly and infirm voters.
Senior TMC ministers and MPs criticize the ECI's approach, demanding home hearings for vulnerable voters.
Voters across West Bengal report difficulties in attending hearings due to mobility issues and lack of clear instructions.
