Karnataka Mandates Surprise Village Inspections for Panchayat CEOs

Karnataka wants senior local government officers to visit villages more often.

District panchayat CEOs must visit four or five villages at least twice every week.

They must make surprise visits so officials cannot prepare in advance.

During the visits, they will check attendance and inspect development work.

They will also listen to people’s complaints.

Some problems may be solved immediately.

The minister wants better drinking water, roads, sanitation and jobs in villages.

He said stronger village services could reduce migration to cities.
