Italian Authorities Uncover Fraud and Money Laundering Rings
Italian police have discovered a big group of criminals who tricked people and organizations out of a lot of money.
They pretended to be a company that does restoration work for Florence's famous cathedral and received nearly 1.8 million euros.
The police managed to get back about 300,000 euros, but the organization is still missing almost 1.5 million euros.
The criminals also laundered money, and the police think Chinese money laundering is becoming a big problem because they don't know where the money is coming from.
Ten people, from different countries, have been arrested or are being sought by the police.
Italian police uncovered an international criminal organization that swindled 30 million euros from victims, including the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore.
Criminals posed as a restoration company and received nearly 1.8 million euros from the Opera, leaving them short of 1.5 million euros after recovering 300,000 euros.
The investigation revealed a growing ring of loan-sharking and money laundering by Chinese criminal organizations in Italy.
Prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 10 people, including Italian, Nigerian, Albanian, and Chinese nationals, accused of money laundering and issuing false invoices.
