Datia Bypoll: Congress Wins Amid Political Tension

Datia Bypoll: Congress Wins Amid Political Tension

In July 2026, people in Datia, a town in India, went to the polls to choose a new lawmaker because the previous one was sent to jail.

Two main candidates ran: Ghanshyam Singh from the Congress party and Ashutosh Tiwari from the BJP.

About 71% of voters turned out.

Singh won by a little over 6,500 votes.

Some people think this result could show how young voters feel and might change politics in the state and even in the whole country.

A big protest happened earlier when a former minister was not allowed to run again, and the road was blocked for a long time.

The election was watched closely because it could hint at what might happen in the next big elections in 2028.
