Owaisi questions Muslim representation in Lok Sabha
Asaduddin Owaisi, a member of parliament from the AIMIM party, spoke in the Lok Sabha about how there are very few Muslim members in the Indian parliament.
He said that if areas with many Muslim voters can elect non-Muslim leaders, then areas with fewer Muslim voters should also be able to elect Muslim leaders.
He mentioned places like Wayanad, Rae Bareli, Amethi, and Etawah, which are strongholds of the Congress and Samajwadi Party.
Owaisi believes that for India to be a true democracy, the most marginalized groups should have political power.
Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the low representation of Muslims in the Lok Sabha.
He argued that if Muslim-majority seats like Wayanad can elect non-Muslims, seats like Rae Bareli, Amethi, and Etawah should be able to elect Muslims.
Owaisi referenced B.R. Ambedkar's views on political power being key to social progress.
He mentioned that the ruling party has no Muslim members in the Lok Sabha.
The debate was part of discussions on election reforms in the Lok Sabha.
