India rules out ethanol-diesel blend after safety test failure

India wanted to mix a fuel called ethanol into diesel, the fuel many trucks and buses use.

But when scientists tested it, they found a big problem: the mixture could catch fire too easily.

That made it unsafe to use on the roads.

Because of this, the government said no to ethanol-diesel for now.

The government is still using ethanol in petrol, which is the fuel for most cars.

It has a goal of mixing 20 per cent ethanol into petrol.

Earlier, oil companies asked for 10.5 billion litres of ethanol and got offers for much more than that.

The government is also thinking about using ethanol for cooking instead of the gas used in many kitchens.

This could help India buy less cooking gas from other countries.

The minister who told Parliament about this is Suresh Gopi.
