Dhrupad Vocal Workshop Introduces Students to Classical Music
Imagine learning a new kind of music!
At Sharada Vidyalaya, students got to learn about Dhrupad singing.
Three music masters showed them the basics, like the seven main notes.
They explored the ‘Raga Bhoopali’ and a ten-beat rhythm.
The students practiced a traditional song together.
Many of the students were hearing this kind of music for the first time.
The school where this happened has been around since 1922 and was started to help others.
The music teacher was very impressed with how much the students enjoyed the class.
Pandit Umakant Gundecha, Anant Gundecha, and Pandit Akhilesh Gundecha led the workshop.
The workshop focused on the Dhrupad style of singing and 'Taal'.
Students were introduced to the seven basic notes and 'Raga Bhoopali'.
Pandit Akhilesh Gundecha demonstrated the ten-beat 'Sulfakta Taal'.
Students collectively rehearsed a traditional composition.
