Power Ministry Updates RoW Compensation Guidelines
The Power Ministry has updated its rules for paying compensation to landowners when building power lines.
They made these changes because it was taking too long to decide how much land is worth.
Now, they will use special people called valuers to decide the price.
These valuers will be chosen by a committee that includes landowners, the power line company, and local officials.
The valuers have 21 days to give their reports.
The final price will be an average of the reports, with some rules to make sure it's fair.
The power line company will pay the valuers' fees.
Power Ministry issued supplementary guidelines for RoW compensation in March 2025, amended in January 2026.
Market Rate Committee (MRC) formed to fix land market rates where no mechanism exists.
Valuers from Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) to be engaged for land valuation.
Three valuers appointed: one each by landowners, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), and District Magistrate (DM).
Reference market rate determined by averaging two selected valuations, with rules for discrepancies.
