Indian Reservoirs Storage Drops Slightly
The storage in 166 big water reservoirs in India is now at 87.83% of their total capacity.
This is a small drop from last week.
The rain after the monsoon season has been less than usual, which is why the water levels went down.
However, since October 1, there has been more rain than usual.
This extra rain and the good water levels have helped farmers plant more crops.
The water levels are different in different parts of India.
Some places have more water than others.
The government expects the water levels to go up next week because of heavy rains and a coming cyclone.
Storage in 166 major Indian reservoirs dropped to 87.83% of capacity due to 23% deficient post-monsoon rainfall last week.
The current storage volume is 161.218 billion cubic meters (BCM) against a total capacity of 183.565 BCM.
Post-monsoon rainfall since October 1 has been 25% excess, with 59% of districts receiving excess rainfall.
Rabi sowing has increased by 12% as of November 21, supported by surplus post-monsoon rainfall and good storage levels.
Storage levels in the southern and eastern regions are expected to improve next week due to heavy rains and Cyclone Ditwah.
