Maharashtra government challenges Sena corporator’s bail in doctors’ assault case

Maharashtra government challenges Sena corporator’s bail in doctors’ assault case

A local politician named Ramesh Mhatre is accused of leading a group that attacked three doctors.

The alleged attack happened at a municipal hospital in Dombivli during a medical emergency.

Mhatre and three other people were arrested on 8 July.

A lower court gave them bail, but the Bombay High Court first stopped that decision.

The High Court said the lower court’s order was not properly explained.

Later, on 7 August, the High Court gave them bail again with restrictions.

They were told to stay in Goa and report to police three times each week.

The Maharashtra government says the bail decision did not adequately protect the investigation or witnesses.

It has asked the Supreme Court to cancel the bail.
