High Court Denies State Appeal Over 425-Day Delay
The state of Madhya Pradesh asked a high court to stop a decision that would affect promotions.
The court said it would not help the state because the appeal was filed almost 14 months late.
The judges said the state’s officers were slow and careless, which cost the state money.
The state wanted a pause on the decision, but the court said it could only give a pause if the state first asked for a special permission to ignore the delay.
The court told the state to reply to that request in two weeks and will decide again in early August.
Madhya Pradesh High Court rejected the state's appeal filed 425 days late.
Bench of Justices Subodh Abhyankar and Alok Awasthi ruled that no interim relief can be granted without condonation of delay.
Court criticized state officers’ "lethargy and cavalier attitude" for costing the state.
The state argued the delay was procedural and sought a stay, citing a prior judgment.
The court directed the state to file a reply to the delay‑condonation application within two weeks.
