Sony halts Spider-Man spin-off films as chairman calls them misfires
Sony's Spider-Man spin-off universe cancelled? Here's what the studio has said · wionews.com

Spider-Man is a very popular superhero whose newest movie is doing really well at the box office.

But not every movie about his friends and enemies has been a hit.

Sony Pictures is the company that makes some Spider-Man movies.

The person in charge, Tom Rothman, talked to a magazine called Variety.

He said movies like Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter did not please audiences.

Because of that, the company is not making any more of those kinds of live-action movies right now.

Rothman said 'the audience is the boss,' so if people do not like a movie, the studio listens.

The Venom movies, however, were very successful and made lots of money.

Sony now wants to focus on animated projects instead, like the popular animated Spider-Man films.

So fans may see more Spider-Man adventures, just maybe not the same live-action spin-offs.

Tom Rothman

Chairman of Sony Pictures

“"Right now, we don’t know. We never looked at it as the ‘Sony‑Marvel Universe. We looked at if there were worthwhile movies to make with other characters. At the moment, there are none in active development."”
