Farmers Plan Protest for Krishna River Project
Farmers in North Karnataka are planning a big protest called 'March Towards Krishna' on February 9.
They are upset because the government has not done enough to use all the water from the Krishna River that is supposed to go to their state.
A long time ago, in 1964, the Upper Krishna Project started, but even after 62 years, the farmers say they are not getting the water they need.
The government was supposed to raise the height of the Alamatti dam, but they keep delaying it.
The farmers want the project to be given to the central government so it can be finished on time.
They are also worried that if the project is not completed by 2050, the water might be given to other states.
The protest is to make sure the government takes action and gives them the water they need for farming.
Farmers in North Karnataka plan a large-scale protest on February 9 to demand full utilisation of Krishna River water allocation.
The Upper Krishna Project, started in 1964, has not been fully utilised, leaving farmers without promised irrigation benefits.
The Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II approved raising the Alamatti dam height in 2010, but the government has delayed implementation.
Farmers want the Upper Krishna Project to be elevated to national project status for time-bound execution by the Central government.
The deadline for Karnataka to utilise its full Krishna water share is May 31, 2050, after which water could be redistributed.
