BCCI Set to Report to Sports Ministry Under New Governance Bill
The government is creating a new sports law to make things fairer and more transparent.
This means the BCCI, which runs cricket in India, will now be watched over by the Sports Ministry.
The BCCI will still make its own decisions, but they'll have to follow the new rules.
A special court will be created to solve any arguments in sports.
The retirement age for sports leaders will also be raised.
Plus, the public will have access to more information about how sports organizations work.
These changes aim to improve how sports are run and solve problems quickly.
The National Sports Governance Bill was tabled in Lok Sabha, including BCCI under the Sports Ministry's purview.
BCCI will function autonomously like other National Sports Federations (NSFs), but will be monitored for governance and accountability.
A National Sports Tribunal will be established to resolve disputes within sports, including elections and athlete selection.
The Bill proposes increasing the retirement age for sports officials to 75 years.
All 45 recognised NSFs, including BCCI, will fall under the Right to Information Act of 2005.
