Assam Police Set for Major Recruitment, Promotions and Anti-Drug Expansion
Assam wants to make its police force bigger and better.
The government plans to hire up to 20,000 new police workers.
It also plans to promote about 5,000 current personnel.
Police have improved their conviction rate, which means more cases are ending with guilty decisions.
The government wants to raise that rate even further.
Two new police groups will help with disasters and security work.
More homes will be built for police personnel.
A new team will fight drug trafficking and investigate economic crimes.
The police training academy will also be upgraded.

The police conviction rate has risen from about 8% in 2020 to 29.30%, with a target of 35%.
Two new battalions are planned for disaster management and security duties linked to Oil India and ONGC.
Police housing is expected to increase from about 10,000 units to 30,000 for a force of roughly 90,000.
