SEZ Policy Reforms Committee to Submit Report Soon
A group of 17 people has been working on ways to make special economic zones (SEZs) in India better.
These zones help companies make and sell things more easily.
The group has talked to different people who work in these zones to understand the problems they face.
They are going to give their suggestions to the government soon.
The suggestions might include changes to the rules to help more things be made in India and sold to other countries.
There are 276 of these zones with lots of companies working in them, and they have been doing well, with exports increasing by 7.37% last year.
A 17-member committee is set to submit its report on SEZ policy reforms to the commerce ministry.
The report aims to revamp SEZs to boost domestic manufacturing, exports, and reduce imports.
The committee has consulted with various stakeholders on issues related to SEZs and other export promotion schemes.
The report will address operational, procedural, and regulatory challenges faced by SEZ developers and units.
Total exports from SEZs rose by 7.37% to $172.27 billion in 2024-25, with 276 operational SEZs and 6,279 units.
