Husband, Mother-in-Law Arrested in Ballia Dowry Death Case
Sometimes, when people get married in some places, the groom's family wrongly asks the bride's family for money or gifts — this is called a 'dowry', and it is against the law.
A woman named Goldi Yadav got married in 2021, but her husband's family kept complaining that they did not get enough.
Her family even paid them 3 lakh rupees for a car, but the in-laws still wanted more.
Goldi became very scared and called her own family to say she thought her in-laws wanted to hurt her.
Sadly, a short time later, Goldi died.
The police believe her husband's family harmed her because of the dowry demands.
Police arrested her husband and her mother-in-law.
Her father-in-law and brother-in-law are also named in the police report.
The accused will now have to explain their side in court, where the truth will be decided.
Police in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, arrested Rakesh Kumar Yadav (30), the husband of Goldi Yadav, and her mother-in-law Isravati Devi (56) in connection with her alleged dowry death.
The FIR, filed at Bhimpura police station, also names Goldi's brother-in-law Nitish and father-in-law Kamlesh; efforts are underway to arrest them.
Goldi married Rakesh on April 29, 2021, and her in-laws allegedly harassed her over insufficient dowry despite a Rs 3 lakh cash payment for a four-wheeler.
A day before her death, Goldi told her maternal family by phone that her in-laws were allegedly planning to kill her.
Charges were filed under Sections 85 and 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, and her body was sent for post-mortem.
