Telangana to Adopt Autonomous, Tele-remote Mining for Singareni
Coal mining can be dangerous for workers.
Big machines are used to dig coal out of large open pits.
Some of these machines are so powerful that being near them can be risky.
Now, the state of Telangana in India wants to make mining safer.
They plan to use special technology that lets people control mining machines from far away.
This is a bit like driving a toy car with a remote control, but for huge trucks.
Some machines can even drive themselves without a person inside.
Leaders from Telangana traveled to the United States to see these machines.
They visited two big companies that make mining equipment.
The new machines are expected to reduce accidents and keep workers safe.
Telangana will introduce autonomous and tele-remote mining technologies at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to improve safety and productivity.
A delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu visited Caterpillar Inc. and Komatsu Limited facilities in the United States.
At Caterpillar's Demonstration and Learning Centre in Tucson, Arizona, officials reviewed large-scale mining machinery operating through autonomous and remote-control systems.
The delegation also visited Komatsu's manufacturing facility in Longview, near Dallas, Texas, to discuss technological collaboration, equipment supply and spare parts availability.
Authorities said automated machinery in opencast mines is expected to reduce accident rates and could lead to local maintenance hubs and skill development training in Telangana.
