ISI Bill Deadline Extended to January 5
The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is a famous place for learning and researching statistics.
The government wanted to change some rules about how ISI is run, and they asked people for their opinions.
At first, they said people could give their opinions until December 15, 2025.
But many teachers and students at ISI were worried that the new rules would make the institute less independent.
They protested and asked important people in the government to stop the new rules.
The government listened and said people could now give their opinions until January 5, 2026.
This gives more time for everyone to talk about the new rules and what might happen if they are changed.
The deadline for public opinion on the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2025, has been extended to January 5, 2026.
The original deadline was December 15, 2025.
The bill proposes to replace the current decision-making bodies (Council and Academic Council) with a Board of Governors.
ISI teachers and students have protested against the bill, fearing it would erode the institute's autonomy.
The winter session of Parliament ends on December 19, 2025, and the bill will not be tabled during this session.
