Vadodara Zoo Helps Save River Species Eggs
Imagine a river that needed cleaning up.
Before the workers started, a team looked for eggs of crocodiles, turtles, and birds.
These eggs were carefully moved to a safe place, like a zoo.
At the zoo, the eggs were kept warm and moist until they hatched.
Special care was taken because the temperature helps decide if baby crocodiles will be male or female!
In the end, many baby animals were successfully hatched and released back into the river, helping to keep the river healthy.
A conservation project was initiated as part of the Vishwamitri Flood Mitigation Project.
Volunteers rescued 410 eggs from the Vishwamitri River.
The rescued eggs, including crocodile, turtle, and bird eggs, were incubated at the Sayaji Baug Zoo.
The zoo successfully hatched eggs, including 16 crocodile, 26 turtle, and 20 bird eggs.
Hatchlings were released back into the river.
