Trump Revives Russia Oil Sanctions Bill
The Russia Sanctions Bill is a law that the US Congress is thinking about.
It would let the US president put very high taxes (up to 500%) on things that countries buy from the US if those countries also buy oil from Russia.
This is to make Russia stop its war in Ukraine.
The bill was first talked about in April 2025 but didn't get much attention.
Now, President Trump supports it, which makes it more likely to pass.
If it becomes a law, it could hurt countries like India that buy Russian oil and sell things to the US.
It might also make India want to make a trade deal with the US faster.
The Russia Sanctions Bill proposes up to 500% tariffs on goods from countries buying Russian oil.
The bill was first introduced in April 2025 but gained momentum after Trump's support.
Trump's backing is seen as a move to pressure Russia into a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The bill has strong support in the Senate (84 out of 100) and growing support in the House.
If passed, the bill could severely impact India's $87 billion exports to the US in FY25.
